The process of creating an image with a camera is a somewhat new concept for me. In the past, I was always more interested in painting and drawing, and I’ve been given a natural ability to render things as they would appear to the human eye, but recently I’ve discovered that this talent had become a burden to me. I found that I was constantly consumed with representing what I was observing rather than considering my own feelings, conception or even existence in terms of my artwork. However, the moment I picked up the camera, I felt as though I was finally able to render anything I wanted to flawlessly every time with film. It seems that I couldn’t move ahead or think freely until I had conquered my inadequacy for representational rendering.  It seems as though photography was just a way for me to circumvent a lifetime of learning how to paint. Once I was free from my own restraints I started to look for ways to create abstract imagery from a world of every day happenings and ordinary sightings. Whether it was arranging elements in a landscape to evoke a certain mood, or making a long exposure to create a distinct composition and color palette, I started to notice that my work was always coming back to an abstraction from true elements.
